So when it comes to social media, it's no wonder so many small business owners have been slow to incorporate this newish channel into their overall marketing strategy. Let's face it: Social media can be quite the time suck!

But hey ... small businesse are catching up, as is evident from this new infographic from the folks over at VerticalResponse, brought to our attention by Marketing Pilgrim this morning. The infographic highlights how small businesses are using social media -- how much time and money they're spending, which social networks they're focusing on, and the challenges they're facing. Turns out a big chunk -- 43% of small businesses -- are spending at least 6 hours per week on social media, with a large focus on Facebook (90% are using it) and Twitter (70% are using it). As for social networks like Google+ and Pinterest, to quote the infographic, "not so much." Check out the full infographic below for more interesting stats.

New Girl On Post: Halloween Decor: Hits and Misses

Generally, I don't decorate a lot for Halloween. It's not my favorite holiday, frankly, it doesn't even make Top 3. So the last few years, without a Hobby Lobby nearby or really any desire to decorate for Halloween, I've just relied on my old decorations.

However, this year, being back in the land of Hobby Lobby and cheap craft supplies, plus armed with inspiration from Pintrest and the Better Homes and Gardens Halloween decor issue, I decided to add a few new decor items to my home.

Well, let's just say that after I made these items, my husband told me that he didn't think Martha Stewart should be worried about me taking over her job. Gee...thanks honey.

Anyway, if you're already following me on Instagram, you've probably seen most of what I'm about to show you.? If you don't, then you can see my Halloween decor now.

Let's start off at the front door.? These white pumpkins that spell out "Boo" were seriously the most difficult craft I did.? You'd think spray painting three pumpkins white wouldn't be hard. WRONG. I don't often spray paint, so I think what happened is that I didn't wait long enough between coats. I'd wait about 30? minutes max and paint again. Also the paint was flat, which is what was recommended in the magazine, but I had better results with glossy paint.? Here's the pumpkin fail after the white paint.

Once the pumpkins were sprayed with the white glossy paint, I taped the stencil on them so I could paint the letters in black.? All went well until I peeled the?stencil off, which took part of the paint with it.? So...I painted back over the pumpkin with the white glossy paint, and applied the stencil letters with Sharpie.? At least it worked.

Zoomed out view of our front door.

Close-up of the pumpkins and our Jack O' Lantern.

Speaking of the Jack O' Lantern. It was probably the easiest craft I did. Although cutting out his teeth, was quite time consuming. I think he looks quite scary in this night pic.

These next few photos are some of my Halloween photos and decorations on the shelves in my living room. I had several Halloween themed photos in my archive, plus a printable I downloaded from Pinterest and sent them off to my printing company.? I think it adds a little something extra to the overall decor.

?

?

?

These fabric pumpkins were another inspiration from the BHG Halloween decor magazine.? Not too hard to make, just choose three different fabrics, paint some toilet paper rolls black and run two gathering stitches through the fabric to gather it up, stuff it with plastic bags and tie the rolls inside. Two of the pumpkins went easily. The thread on the third kept breaking and I had to keep redoing it. Finally they were all done and out to display.
Last, but not least is my spider wreath. It's my favorite item I made this year. Finding three different sized spiders proved to be tricky. I had to visit OrientalTrading.com, Wal-Mart and a local Halloween store to get them all. Hot-gluing them proved to be a bit tedious, but it really turned out great. I hung it outside on our door. Next morning, I opened the door and half the spiders had fallen off. Evidently the cold temps overnight combined with the warm temps during the day did this.? I haven't even fixed the wreath yet. I was too heartbroken all my hard work ended up for naught. So, the wreath is now sitting dejectedly in our front hallway floor.
I told Sean that I hope my Christmas crafts/attempts at decor go better than this. Or else I'm throwing in the towel.

Russian report criticizes US on human rights, US responds 'bring it on'

The author of the professionally written report says it is meant to broaden the conversation by inviting Americans to see that they have plenty of problems in their own country.

By Fred Weir,?Correspondent / October 24, 2012

Russian prisoners rights activist Valery Borschev gestures during a news conference in Moscow on Wednesday. A respected group of Russian human rights activists has backed claims made by jailed opposition activist Leonid Razvozzhayev that he was tortured into confessing to plotting riots ? the same week that Moscow released a report criticizing human rights in the US.

Russian officials claim they are tired of being criticized by the US government for Russia's alleged human rights abuses, democratic deficiencies, and systemic inadequacies, in many cases from a standpoint that's less than objective, often ignorant of cultural relativities, and sometimes downright hypocritical.

So, the Russian Foreign Ministry, at the behest of Russia's State Duma, has decided to give the United States a blast of its own medicine ? and, its main author claims, hopefully spark a dialogue ? by issuing a well-documented 50-page report on the state of civil rights, electoral democracy, and judicial independence, among other things, inside the US.

It's a professionally written report, based largely on the work of US nongovernment and academic sources, that covers a gamut of social problems that will mostly be familiar to any well-informed American. But the Russian purpose, argues its main author Konstantin Dolgov, is not necessarily to tell Americans anything new but to urge them to change their angle of view and learn to do without the harsh judgements that he sees lurking behind many official US pronouncements on Russia.

"Nobody likes to be hectored," Mr. Dolgov says. "We are a young democracy. We have our problems, but we also have serious achievement that we hope won't be overlooked."

Dolgov, the Foreign Ministry's special representative for human rights, insists it's not an attempt to copy the US State Department's annual reports on human rights around the world, but simply an effort to broaden the conversation by inviting Americans to see that they have plenty of problems in their own country, and should deal with them before lecturing to others.

"They criticize and judge everyone except themselves. We think the US should not try to monopolize the role of leader, teacher, and mentor in the field of human rights," Mr. Dolgov says. "If they want to do this, they should be aware that they are also being monitored."

Dolgov says Russia isn't judging the US, or denying that it's an established democratic state, just that Americans should be aware that they're living in a glass house.

"Nobody is rejecting the historic accomplishments of the US, but at the same time they should be aware that serious problems continue to exist, and some of them are growing," he says.

His preference would be for the US and Russia to discuss differences behind closed doors, in intergovernmental committees that already exist but have fallen into disuse, such as the US-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission.

As for human rights violations in Russia, that's not his department, he says. The Kremlin has a human rights ombudsman, Vladimir Lukin, who deals with domestic matters and produces annual reports of his own.

Women who quit smoking may gain up to 10 years of life - KFDA ...

SATURDAY, Oct. 27 (HealthDay News) -- Smoking takes at least 10 years off women's lives but they can significantly reduce that risk if they quit smoking early enough, a new study suggests.

Researchers looked at more than 1 million women in the United Kingdom who were recruited when they were aged 50 to 65 and followed for 12 years. Initially, 20 percent of the women were smokers, 28 percent ex-smokers, and 52 percent had never smoked.

Women who still smoked three years into the study were nearly three times more likely to die in the following nine years than nonsmokers. This threefold increased risk of death means that two-thirds of all deaths of female smokers in their 50s, 60s and 70s are caused by smoking, the researchers said.

The death risk among smokers increased sharply with the amount smoked, but even those who were light smokers (1 to 9 cigarettes a day) at the start of the study were twice as likely to die as nonsmokers, according to the report published online Oct. 27 in The Lancet.

The investigators also found that women who had stopped smoking before the age of 40 avoided more than 90 percent of the increased risk of dying associated with continuing to smoke, while those who quit before 30 avoided more than 97 percent of that increased risk.

"If women smoke like men, they die like men -- but, whether they are men or women, smokers who stop before reaching middle age will on average gain about an extra 10 years of life," study co-author Sir Richard Peto, of the University of Oxford in England, said in a journal news release.

The authors of a commentary accompanying the study agreed that the findings are "simple and unequivocal."

"That we had to wait until the 21st century to observe the full consequences in women of a habit that was already widespread in the mid-20th century, when tobacco smoking pervaded much of the developed world, might seem paradoxical," wrote Rachel Huxley, of the University of Minnesota, and her co-author.

"But this is because, in most of Europe and the U.S.A., the popularity of smoking among young women reached its peak in the 1960s, decades later than for men," the editorialists explained. "Hence, previous studies have underestimated the full eventual impact of smoking on mortality in women, simply because of the lengthy time lag between smoking uptake by young women and disease onset in middle and old age."

The Art of Flowers : New University

Courtesy of Lauren Adiova

The UC Irvine Arboretum had their annual Fall Art and Flower Festival on Oct. 20, showcasing ?Living Art? of California.

Orange County Fine Arts, a local art guild, presented a show and sale featuring art inspired by California?s outdoors and wildlife. All artists featured in the show were juried artists that the OC Fine Arts both qualified and managed.

Marie Taggart, Dennie Hahn, Maria Elena Bicer, Marilou Hogeboom and other local artists were there to showcase and sell their work. Art styles ranged from oil painting, plein air (California Impressionism), jewelry, photography, digital media and many other artistic styles.

The art show, one of the Arboretum?s major events, has taken place for more than 10 years.

?Marie Taggart, one of the artists, was painting here one day. She was painting our wildflowers and I stopped to admire her work and we started talking and that?s how it all got started,? said Laura Lyons, Arboretum nursery manager and volunteer coordinator.

Marie Taggart added, ?Usually it is just an invitational to people who like the garden. All of us belong to different groups. To paint with different people sometimes, it?s fun and we all get here together.?

The UCI Arboretum opened its $2 admission at 10 a.m. and continued to sell arts and plants until 3 p.m. Due to the rain clouds, people streamed in and out, a few at a time, of the arboretum, admiring the artwork.

The art show was held at the same time at the UCI Arboretum?s monthly plant sale and is one of the Arboretum?s six major plant sales of the year.

UCI students came at 7 a.m. to help the artists and Lyons set up for the event.

?We have students who volunteer here or take it as a class credit. We have Bio 197 where students weed and help out at the gardens and they get credit for it and then the other option is to do 199 with Dr. Bowler to do research and marsh work,? said Grace, a volunteer and biology major at UCI.

Plants sold at the sale match to the season they bloom and were selected according to popularity and availability. The Arboretum?s nursery grows many different yet easy to grow perennials, bulbs and succulents. In the fall, some of the plants that grow in the nursery are Creeping Cape Lilac (Plectranthus ciliates), Crassula ?Campfire? and Moonlight Gladiolus (Gladiolus tristis).

Plants in the sale are both California native plants and South African plants. The fall season is the ideal time for planting California native material, which can last from October to January. According to five-year volunteer Marti Heard, a UCI professor introduced the South African plants to the nursery because Irvine and South Africa had the same latitude, making the plants native to South Africa easy to grow. Plants were priced at a range of $8 to $35, with most plants sold from $8 to $11.

Despite the stormy clouds and the fact that Interstate 73 was under construction, causing business to be slow, one artist was not deterred. Bicer, who paints both watercolors and oil paintings and fuses glass to make jewelry, was born in Argentina and did not become an artist until the age of 45 because her parents had objected to her desire to become an artist after high school. She only began to pursue her dream and study art when she found many beautiful paintings in a friend?s home by chance and was given an art set for Christmas.

Happy that she sold two paintings, Bicer stated, ?There usually are more people, but I?m happy because it?s something to show what you do. I love to paint and I like everything that is art. That?s it. This is a dream come true.?

All proceeds from the plant sale support work done at the Arboretum, and the profit from the art sale went to the artists who, according to Lyons, usually make a donation as well.

Although the rain clouds remained in the sky for the whole five hours the Arboretum was open, people still came out to check out the nature-inspired art the artists worked hard on.

When asked if the event was a success, Lyons replied, ?We?ve done pretty well today. I?m a little disappointed about the weather. I would?ve liked it to be a little bit sunnier. That tends to really bring out the crowd, but I think we?ve done quite nicely today.?

Big storm scrambles presidential campaign schedules

LAND O'LAKES, Fla. (AP) ? The big storm taking aim at the East Coast a little more than a week before the election has scrambled campaign plans, with both candidates canceling events and President Barack Obama moving up his departure for Florida to beat the storm.

In an extraordinarily tight race, Hurricane Sandy has forced Obama and Republican Mitt Romney to toss out carefully mapped-out itineraries as the candidates work to maximize voter turnout while avoiding any suggestion they were putting politics ahead of public safety. Romney canceled plans to campaign in Virginia on Sunday, opting instead to join running mate Paul Ryan in Ohio.

"The storm will throw havoc into the race," Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said on "Fox News Sunday," noting that a Monday rally with Obama and former President Bill Clinton has already been canceled.

David Axelrod, a top adviser to Obama's campaign, said it was impossible to predict how the storm would affect the election but acknowledged it could drive down turnout to Obama's detriment.

"Obviously, we want unfettered access to the polls, because we think the more people that come out, the better we're going to do," Axelrod said on CNN's "State of the Union." ''And so, to the extent that it makes it harder, that's a source of concern."

On Saturday, Romney was in Florida speaking of bipartisanship, while Obama tried to nail down New Hampshire's four electoral votes.

The former Massachusetts governor presented himself as a staunch conservative during the Republican primaries but has struck a more moderate tone as he appeals for support from women and independent voters. He promised to "build bridges" with Democrats.

Romney coupled his message with digs at Obama for "shrinking from the magnitude of the times" and advancing an agenda that lacks vision.

Obama, heading to Florida on Sunday night rather than Monday as first planned, spoke with volunteers at a Teamsters hall in Manchester, N.H., on Saturday. "We don't know how this thing is going to play out. These four electoral voters right here could make all the difference."

Winning the White House takes 270 electoral votes. Obama is ahead in states and the District of Columbia representing 237 electoral votes; Romney has a comfortable lead in states with 191 electoral votes. The rest lie in nine contested states that remain too close to call.

The president adjusted his campaign speech at a Nashua rally to appeal to voters in low-tax New Hampshire, hammering Romney for raising taxes and fees when he led Massachusetts.

Obama accused Romney of running in Massachusetts on a pledge to lower taxes, then making life more expensive for the middle class after taking office.

"All he's offering is a big rerun of the same policies," Obama said.

The candidates worked to lock down every possible early vote without intruding on emergency preparations as the storm's expected track looked to affect at least four of the most competitive states: New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.

Obama canceled appearances in Prince William County, Va., on Monday, and Colorado Springs, Colo., on Tuesday so he could monitor Hurricane Sandy.

He moved the departure for Florida to beat the storm and planned a Monday stop in Youngstown, Ohio, before returning to Washington.

Instead of campaigning in Virginia as scheduled, Romney was set to join Ryan for three stops of his Ohio bus tour. Romney's trip to Florida was timed to coincide with the first day of in-person early voting in a state where 29 electoral votes are up for grabs.

Vice President Joe Biden canceled a Saturday rally in coastal Virginia Beach, Va., to allow officials there to focus on disaster preparedness and local security concerns. But he went ahead with an appearance in Lynchburg, which is inland.

Biden said Romney and Ryan are fleeing from their record to appear more moderate than they are. The Republican nominees, Biden said, "are counting on the American people to have an overwhelming case of amnesia."

How to make stem cells - nuclear reprogramming moves a step forward

Monday, October 29, 2012

The idea of taking a mature cell and removing its identity (nuclear reprogramming) so that it can then become any kind of cell, holds great promise for repairing damaged tissue or replacing bone marrow after chemotherapy. Hot on the heels of his recent Nobel prize Dr John B. Gurdon has published today in BioMed Central's open access journal Epigenetics & Chromatin research showing that histone H3.3 deposited by the histone-interacting protein HIRA is a key step in reverting nuclei to a pluripotent type, capable of being any one of many cell types.

All of an individual's cells have the same DNA, yet these cells become programmed, as the organism matures, into different types such as heart, or lung or brain. To achieve this different genes are more or less permanently switched off in each cell lineage. As an embryo grows, after a certain number of divisions, it is no longer possible for cells which have gone down the pathway to become something else. For example heart cells cannot be converted into lung tissue, and muscle cells cannot form bone.

One way to reprogram DNA is to transfer the nucleus of a mature cell into an unfertilized egg. Proteins and other factors inside the egg alter the DNA switching some genes on and other off until it resembles the DNA of a pluripotent cell. However there seem to be some difficulties with this method in completely wiping the cell's 'memory'.

One of the mechanisms regulating the activation of genes is chromatin and in particular histones. DNA is wrapped around histones and alteration in how the DNA is wound changes which genes are available to the cell. In order to understand how nuclear reprogramming works Dr Gurdon's team transplanted a mouse nucleus into a frog oocyte (Xenopus laevis). They added fluorescently tagged histones by microinjection, so that they could see where in the cell and nucleus the these histones collected.

Prof Gurdon explained, "Using real-time microscopy it became apparent that from 10 hours onwards H3.3 (the histone involved with active genes) expressed in the oocyte became incorporated into the transplanted nucleus. When we looked in detail at the gene Oct4, which is known to be involved in making cells pluripotent, we found that H3.3 was incorporated into Oct4, and that this coincided with the onset of transcription from the gene." Prof Gurdon's team also found that Hira, a protein required to incorporate H3.3 into chromatin, was also required for nuclear reprogramming.

Dr Steven Henikoff, from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, commented, "Manipulating the H3.3 pathway may provide a way to completely wipe a cell's 'memory' and produce a truly pluripotent cell. Half a century after showing that cells can be reprogrammed this research provides a link to the work of Shinya Yamanaka (who shared the prize), and suggests that chromatin is a sticking point preventing artificially induced reprogramming being used routinely in the clinic."

Report: Iran has drone pictures of Israeli bases

FILE - Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 file image made from video released by the Israeli Defense Forces shows the downing of a drone that entered Israeli airspace in southern Israel. Iran has images of sensitive Israeli military bases taken by a drone that was launched by Lebanon's Hezbollah movement and downed by Israel earlier this month, a senior Iranian lawmaker claimed Monday Oct. 29 2012 in the latest boast from Tehran about purported advances in the capabilities of its unmanned aircraft. The announcement gave no details about the photos ? other than calling the Israeli bases "forbidden sites" ? but it suggested Iranian drones have the ability to transmit data while in flight. (AP) ? Iran has images of sensitive Israeli military bases taken by a drone that was launched by Lebanon's Hezbollah movement and downed by Israel earlier this month, a senior Iranian lawmaker claimed Monday in the latest boast from Tehran about purported advances in the capabilities of its unmanned aircraft.

The announcement gave no details about the photos ? other than calling the Israeli bases "forbidden sites" ? but it suggested Iranian drones have the ability to transmit data while in flight. It also appeared aimed at warning Israel about the options for retaliation for any possible strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

A prominent lawmaker, Ismaeil Kowsari, also was quoted as saying that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah possesses more sophisticated Iranian-made drones than the one that was downed, including some that could carry weapons.

"These drones transmit the pictures online," Kowsari he told the semiofficial Mehr news agency. "The pictures of forbidden sites taken and transmitted by this drone are now in our possession."

The lawmaker, who heads the parliament's defense committee, said Hezbollah is "definitely" equipped with more sophisticated drones, but gave no further details.

A senior Israeli military official in Israel's northern command said he did not believe the drone possessed a camera, though he noted an Israeli investigation is continuing. He spoke on condition of anonymity under military guidelines.

Hezbollah "won't announce it as long as it doesn't see the need to do so ... That's why we say we will respond to Israel inside (its) territory, should it take any action against us," said Kowsari, a former commander of the powerful Revolutionary Guard.

Iran has claimed that Iranian-made surveillance drones have made dozens of apparently undetected flights into Israeli airspace from Lebanon in recent years. Israel has rejected the account.

Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahid also claimed on Sunday that Tehran has drones far more advanced than the Ayub unmanned aircraft launched by Hezbollah, saying it was not the "latest Iranian technology, definitely." He did not elaborate.

Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah has said the Ayub drone was manufactured in Iran and assembled in Lebanon.

Iran routinely announces technological breakthroughs in its defense program. Last month it claimed to have started producing a long-range missile-carrying drone with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles).

The Shahed-129, or Witness-129, covers much of the Middle East including Israel and nearly doubles the range of previous drones produced by Iranian technicians, who have often relied on reverse engineering military hardware with the country under Western embargo.

But it's unclear whether the new drone contains any elements of an unmanned CIA aircraft that went down in eastern Iran last year. Iran said it has recovered data from the RQ-170 Sentinel and claimed it was building its own replica.

Iran's claims are impossible to independently confirm because the country's arsenal is not open to widespread international inspection with multinational war games or other cooperation.

Insurance and What It Means To You Peter Konig Art

Oct27

Home Insurance Blacklick OH Each year, more automobiles and drivers hit the highways. With countless vehicles on the road, accidents will happen. Automobile insurance can be the difference between a minor inconvenience and a major hassle. How can you decide what insurance you require and how to buy it? Auto insurance protects you by paying for damage or injury you cause others while driving your car, damage to your car or injury to you or your passengers from a crash, plus specific other occurrences, such as theft. Every state and province mandates auto insurance by law. Without insurance, you risk having to pay the full cost of any harm you cause others or of repairing or replacing your car if it is damaged or stolen.Pays for damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Property damage includes damaged property and loss of use of property. If you are sued, it also pays your defense and court costs. Higher recommended insurances are available that cover more than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal injury protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. The minimum amount of this insurance is typically set by the state. Medical payments: This coverage is available in non-no-fault states; it pays despite who may have been at fault. It pays for an insured person?s reasonable and necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from an accident. Collision: Pays for damage to your car caused by a collision. Comprehensive: Applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured motorist: Pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a person who cannot be identified (usually a hit-and-run driver). Under-insured motorist: Pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the full amount of the damages. Other coverages, like car rental and emergency road service, are also available. What you pay for auto insurance varies by company and will depend on several factors, including: * What coverage you select * The make and model of the car you drive * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status and * Where you live Some have come to think of auto insurance as a necessary evil, but it can truly rescue your economic health Evaluate your needs, do your research and with the support of your insurance agent make the decision that best suits you. Major storm threat for East Coast early next week

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Much of the U.S. East Coast has a good chance of getting blasted by gale-force winds, flooding, heavy rain and maybe even snow early next week by an unusual hybrid of hurricane and winter storm, federal and private forecasters say.

Though still projecting several days ahead of Halloween week, the computer models are spooking meteorologists. Government scientists said Wednesday the storm has a 70 percent chance of smacking the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

Hurricane Sandy in the Caribbean, an early winter storm in the West, and a blast of arctic air from the North are predicted to collide, sloshing and parking over the country's most populous coastal corridor starting Sunday. The worst of it should peak early Tuesday, but it will stretch into midweek, forecasters say.

"It'll be a rough couple days from Hatteras up to Cape Cod," said forecaster Jim Cisco of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration prediction center in College Park, Md. "We don't have many modern precedents for what the models are suggesting."

It is likely to hit during a full moon when tides are near their highest, increasing coastal flooding potential, NOAA forecasts warn. And with some trees still leafy and the potential for snow, power outages could last to Election Day, some meteorologists fear. They say it has all the earmarks of a billion-dollar storm.

Some have compared it to the so-called Perfect Storm that struck off the coast of New England in 1991, but Cisco said that one didn't hit as populated an area and is not comparable to what the East Coast may be facing. Nor is it like last year's Halloween storm, which was merely an early snowstorm in the Northeast.

This has much more mess potential because it is a combination of different storm types that could produce a real whopper of weather problems, meteorologists say.

"The Perfect Storm only did $200 million of damage and I'm thinking a billion," said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the private service Weather Underground. "Yeah, it will be worse."

But this is several days in advance, when weather forecasts are far less accurate. The National Hurricane Center only predicts five days in advance, and on Wednesday their forecasts had what's left of Sandy off the North Carolina coast on Monday. But the hurricane center's chief hurricane specialist, James Franklin, said the threat keeps increasing for "a major impact in the Northeast, New York area. In fact it would be such a big storm that it would affect all of the Northeast."

The forecasts keep getting gloomier and more convincing with every day, several experts said.

Cisco said the chance of the storm smacking the East jumped from 60 percent to 70 percent on Wednesday. Masters was somewhat skeptical on Tuesday, giving the storm scenario just a 40 percent likelihood, but on Wednesday he also upped that to 70 percent. The remaining computer models that previously hadn't shown the merger and mega-storm formation now predict a similar scenario.

The biggest question mark is snow, and that depends on where the remnants of Sandy turn inland. The computer model that has been leading the pack in predicting the hybrid storm has it hitting around Delaware. But another model has the storm hitting closer to Maine. If it hits Delaware, the chances of snow increase in that region. If it hits farther north, chances for snow in the mid-Atlantic and even up to New York are lessened, Masters said.

NOAA's Cisco said he could see the equivalent of several inches of snow or rain in the mid-Atlantic, depending on where the storm ends up. In the mountains, snow may be measured in feet instead of inches.

Zillow Adds 1.8M Foreclosed And Pre-Foreclosure Homes To Its Real Estate Listings

zillow logoOnline real estate service Zillow is expanding its real estate listings today by adding "pre-market inventory" ? specifically, homes that have either been foreclosed or are in the foreclosure process. Increasing the selection of available homes is particularly important now, Zillow says, because the inventory of for-sale homes listed on the site has fallen by 20 percent over the past year. The company suggests that there's already considerable interest from homebuyers in this kind of product, citing a study by the National Association of Realtors, which found that 55 percent of homeowners have considered purchasing a foreclosed home but don't know how to find those listings or are discouraged by the complexity of the transaction.
